My son had the greatest experiences here, thanks to Ms, Marquez. I miss so many things about the school, especially the gingerbread houses every Xmas. We have moved on but i will always remember Calahan.

This has to be the bestb school around. My son had a teacher that parents dream of and an experience he will never forget. Thanks to all the support staff and his teacher who made his 4th grade memorable.

This is a really great school! My daughter is in Kinder there and she loves it. They really work with the kids and leave no child behind. My daughter was struggling a little bit so the teachers aid spent a little more 1 on 1 time with her and she improved so much. The school is safe, clean, and just a great place for learning.

My daughter attended Calahan Elementary for kindergarten and first grade. From the support of both teachers and their attention to the individual needs of each child, they supported the recommendation for my daughter to attend Balboa Magnet School. Even though my daughter left Calahan, if it wasn't for her 2 teachers, she would not be receiving the unique and stimulating education that her Calahan teachers recognized she deserved. I look forward to my son attending kindergarten in Sept. '07 at Calahan. The teachers (Blakley & Cieslak) are amazing. Great job all around to the staff.

My son started Kindergarten in Sept 06 and so far I have observed many great things about the school. My son enjoys school and his teacher is great, she really knows each child and her feedback is great. Overall if you want your child to do good in school parents have to be involved and put in the extra help for your kids special needs and this school emphasizes that. We look forward for the upcoming years.

My son started kindergarten at Calahan just two weeks ago. He and I both absolutely love it there. His teacher is wonderful and the school has a lot of extra programs for the kids to do. They have a 'Reading for Success' that encourages reading for all levels. They have computers in the classroom which the children get to work on. I look forward to spending another 5 years at Calahan with my son.

I volunteer at this school, I am very impressed with the dedication of all the teachers, librarian and volunteers that I have met. If you want this school to stay great, it needs parent and volunteer involvement. Great new library!

In general, Calahan has the ability to be a really good school. They have some really good extra-curricular activities. Having said that, a school is only as good as its leader. Dr. Jacob is not a very strong leader. She is passive and is lacking of knowledge on many issues concerning her school. The school staff should be a reflection of the families they serve. Heaven forbid a child should see someone working that looks like them!

Significant improvements to grounds/facilities since Principal Jacob arrived. School staff strives and puts extra efforts into providing quality education.

I feel very lucky to be a part of the Calahan Community. I feel the teachers and staff are excellent educators and very caring individuals. You can tell the children are happy and that they are in a safe happy environment. The test scores are good and the campus is beautiful.

Wonderful small neighborhood school, good teacher to student ration, accredited and caring tachers and staff, excellent (soon full day) kindergarten, single classroom preschool program. School has high API scores and has , added new and challenging programs last few years (New computer lab, Getty Center Partnership, CSUN Music and Arts program, Books and Beyond Leisure Reading Program). Excellent PTA and volunteer programs (Fundraisiers kept to a minimum, Family Activities and Funding for school programs and facilities). Firm but loving discipline and character policies to help reward and challenge students for acceptable social, educational and emotional behaivor.

Calahan is an awesome school! My third child has just finished kindergarten and it was one of the best academic experiences anyone in the family has had - anywhere! Each year we have attended Calahan (7 years so far) has been better than the last. I volunteer in both the administrative and PTA activities. I am constantly impressed and appreciative of the time, devotion, creativity, and caring that is so freely shared. There are many extra activities the school enjoys through CSUN, the Getty Museum, etc. Teachers and staff support each other, the children, parents, extended family and the community - individually and as a group effort. Having 3 very different children, I can say that each has been successful due to being taught according to their needs and strengths. Their memories and comments about Calahan St. Elementary (as have mine) have always been positive and happy.

My son attends Calahan and he is currently in Kindergarten. We have had the worst experience ever. My son has suffered in hands of the teachers, teachers assistants who have no idea how to nurture a child. They are cruel and unevolved. They discipline children by pointing in there faces and yelling at them. If you have a child that is outgoing with a vibrant personality I strongly suggest you do not send them to Calahan, they will only break there spirit and pick on them. My child has fallen behind because of this. The communication between parent teacher and teacher with TA's is horrible. They do not provide a safe and happy inviorment for these children who are trying to adjust to the system. If your child should need special attention they will not provide this to them and only consider your child as a nusiance.

Calahan is an exceptional school. The teachers are enthusiastic and involved. As a graduate of Calahan and a parent I couldn't be happier. My daughter has attended K and 1st. She loves school. The resources from CSUN are a plus (student teachers, field trips, etc.) The number of fathers involved in their children's education is commendable and specifically encouraged at Calahan.

My daughter attended Calahan for two years (1st and 2nd grade). She recieved quality education, was in a safe environment, and was exposed to many different activities (lots of field trips to CSUN to see art shows, musicals etc.) Calahan is a great school. She struggled a little in 1st grade. Expectations at Calahan I feel are very high, but she was able to adapt and now is doing extremely well. Parents are highly encouraged to be involved. The teachers were readily available to discuss issues and compromise on learning strategies.

I think this school and their staff is wonderful. They fully care about the kids who attend here as well as making seem like a family. My son graduated last year and my daughter still has one more year. Great Job Calahan. Thanks from Donna Beebe
