Los Angeles Baptist Junior/Senior High School Reviews

I great school with a diverse and dedicated faculty committed to engaging students in applied learning and knowledge. A safe and respectful campus environment that emphasizes involvement in activities and community service.

Terrible school. Way too religious, rules are ridiculous. Teachers are mean and uncaring giving students horrible boring activities to do. With the new principle the school is even worse. The new dress code is sad and pathetic. There is no such thing as fun at school here anymore my child is very disatisfird and wants to leave. The education is not the best either all this money gone to waste. The science department is teaching wrong ideas. This school needs a lot of work. The only good thing about it is the fact that it is clean

This school is awesome and has been awesome for many years. Unfortunately, the new current administration is trying to undermine the fundamentals that this school was built. The quality faculty and the quality students continue to be the strengths of this campus. For a relatively small amount of tuition, a student can get a quality education.

I am going to this school and I love it. My brother went here and he got into the college he wanted.

I attended grades 7-12 here and graduated a few years ago. I'm doing well enough (in grad school) but I don't think I can credit or discredit LAB for anything I've done. I wasn't too involved in anything there... because there wasn't anything to be involved in. They allow (or used to, I don't know anymore) students to create their own clubs that have meetings during lunch. Just to get something other than volunteering at hospitals on my college application, I made a club for film lovers. LAB is a very safe, protective environment with very little going on. I didn't get into the colleges that I expected to, and it broke my heart. I had really good grades and fantastic SAT scores, but I think that the lack of a wide variety of AP courses and extracurricular activities at LAB hurt my chances.

My two sons currently attend LAB.This is our third year. We couldn't be more pleased with the school. LAB offers an outstanding choice of academic courses, electives, sports teams, clubs and parent volunteer opportunities. The administrators, faculty & staff are committed, approachable, and talented who work together as a unified team to make the school a success. They are focused on developing vital educational, social and spiritual experiences. The administration thoughtfully plans for the future balancing both parental and student feedback. What would Jesus do if He were to run a college prep school? He is at LAB.

Great school. Affordable. Exciting facility changes like the completely upgraded football, track and softball fields. A new weight room is next. The new principal and vice principal have envigorated the direction of the school. They also embrace and build on its tradition of excellence. Only area not up to par is its dismal website. Heard a rehaul is in the works. Also heard the school will be adding 6th grade in Fall of 2008. Highly recommend this school especially if you child is college bound. Great teachers. Facilities kept clean. Safe. Great weekly chapel services. Great kids. Good Christians.

This school is AWESOME! The staff, the teachers, the students. If you are looking for a spiritually based, highly academic school that your child will love to be in this is the place!

Good education. However, if you are not a member of any of their 'Christian' churches, you are an outcast.

No school is perfect, but LAB does an excellent job with its resources. Exciting things are happening at LAB. For example, we were just visited by the WASC review team and received a glowing report. Over 90% of the 2007 class are going to colleges including the AF Academy, UC universities and CSU univeristies. A large grant to the science department is funding a 4 year renewable science, engineering, medicine scholarship for two students. Work has just begun to upgrade baseball, softball, football, track and field facilties with artificial turf. The gym is now airconditioned. The science department is also using the grant to extend wireless laptop capability from the library to the science department rooms. Upgraded microscopes were purchased from the grant so each life science could make their own studies. Teachers are upgrading their education levels through NCLB funds. This is a good safe place to learn.

I attended LAB from 2000 to 2003 before transferring in the beginning of my ninth grade year. Their strengths included the language program, the food, the religious environment, the security and safety. Among their weaknesses were a costly discipline system, lack of preparation or encouragement for higher education, inability for students to choose their own classes, extra-curricular activities, student assistance, and very little student leadership or student-run organizations. I did enjoy participating in the Drill Team, Cross Country, and Band. Their best attributes I would say are their choir and theatre department. The sports are limited. They do enforce a ridiculously strict dress code. Their religiousness includes a mandatory Chapel service once a week plus a religion course each year. Overall, I disliked being at LAB, I felt like their education was sheltered. I didn't feel like I was growing academically and found the courses to be unchallenging.

I am a student. This school's ideas are very strict ,but also somewhat leniant. The school has a great inviroment for children although it is not ideal for those parents who want there child to become ready for the the real world socially, but the education is definitely advanced and challenging. Chapel, though is geared toward only one type of audience, and not promoting too much diveristy with the types of music played and also the topics. Overall though, the school is pretty good. I have attended this school from 7th-9th and am going to continue this year going to 10th grade.

I am finishing up the 8th grade a LAB right now. This school is pretty good but theres really nothing for you to do if your not involved in sports or singing. Plus, many of the students are so materialistic that they can't even come to school if their shoe laces are dirty.

My child currently attends this school, but will not be returning.I found the school to be very average. Some teachers were not very helpful in the classroom.Quite a few of the students are very materialistic. Having the right designer purse or shoes to wear seemed to be high on their list of values. Not quite the right environment. I think for the kind of tuition they charge, you can get an equal or better education at a high performing public school.

This school kind of makes me wonder about private schools. There really aren't that many classes to choose from. Plus, if there aren't enough takers for a class, they'll just cancel it so that students will have to choose something else. I think the school has too many bad teachers, considering the size of the school (small) and the standards held. There are those who just aren't serious, and there are those who have potential but just move so slowly. I've had both types and I feel very cheated. As far as sanitation goes, I'm outraged that all the money from fundraisers, polo sales, and overall tuition is not directed towards making the environment a pleasurable place to learn. It's dirty, there's always trash on the quad, things need to be replaced, and the gym needs air conditioning. Maybe if they invested more energy into the school, it'd be much better.

Los Angeles Baptist Junior/Senior High School is an outstanding private school with a Baptist Christian background. Eclectic and well-organized, the school provides its students with opportunities to excel in many fields, from receiving high grades on tests thanks to the aid of well-qualified, conscientious teachers, to receiving statewide and even national acclaim in athletics with the assistance of astounding sports programs. Avid in other extra-curricular areas (theatre, music, art, community service, etc.) as well, the school combines this amazing school focus with a commitment to developing strong relationships of young people to God, conspiring towards a well-rounded student with a close, knowledgeable walk with God. Currently a high school student at the high school, I have witnessed firsthand how uncannily the education from this school has helped me from the time I was a new junior higher. I plan to continue excelling in all areas (academics, athletics, extra-curricular, Christianity) and go on to a prosperous future, in part thanks to the miraculous school, Los Angeles Baptist.

LAB has been a positive experience for all three of my children. Two of my children have graduated after attending for six years, and have gone on to excel in college and graduate school.
